About This Project

With political instability since the start of 2011, food insecurity and poverty have been on the rise in Yemen. However, due to the poltiical clashes and invasions,   Yemen's fragile economic and political infrastructure has been unstable for the past four years and counting. The impact this is having on Yemeni society is devastating, resulting in roughly 80% of the population needing some sort of emergency assistance. As the UN states, the events unfolding in Yemen has caused one of the worst humanitarian crises in history.

In conjunction with the NGO, War Child UK, the goal of this project was to assess the food insecurity crisis in Al-Haymah Ad-Dakhiliyah, a district in the Sana'a governorate. The baseline assessment conducted by Wr Child UK in July 2018 was an initial evaluation of the district before implementing an 800 household food assistance program. The data visualization provided on this site will allow for users to visual the number of households in each food insecurity category, while also getting the chance to apply demographic* filters and frequency of coping strategies as demonstrated by households in this sample set.
